Marketing Corner
Ever try to sell a Personal Flotation Device (Life Preserver) to a farmer in Nebraska? How about Ice to an Eskimo? Excuse the cliché, but most people that get involved in a Home Business end up trying to do just that. They try to “sell” their products and opportunity to anyone and everyone. This is a big reason that people fail in Home Based Free Enterprise be it MLM, Direct Sales, or retail.

Why does this happen? Well usually the first thing that happens when you start a Home Business is that your sponsor has you start calling leads, leads that you purchase with your hard earned money. Leads that come from lead vendors, who’s business it is to generate leads and sell them.

When you are first starting a Home Business, buying leads is the fastest way to start building your business. However, in most cases it is just hit and miss because the only connection between what you are offering and the name on the list is “possible” interest in earning income from home.

Why do I say “Possible”. Lead vendors generate their leads from many different sources. Email marketing is the most common source of lead traffic as is Incentivized surveys. The best possible scenario from using these leads is that you find someone that is legitimately looking for a home business. But most of the people in these lists have no serious interest whatsoever. At best they are curious. Let’s look at each source.

Bulk Spamming has become more and more difficult, yet literally hundreds of millions of spam email are delivered to in boxes each day. And the Spammers are getting even better at their craft. So let’s assume you get this email in your in box (or your spam folder) that says “earn $10,000 a month working from home”. Catchy enough subject line or headline right? But consider the odds that the person that opens that email, likes the “presentation” and enters their name in survey, has real interest in a home business. If you ever looked at the web sites that these email marketers use as squeeze pages, they are all hype, and no-info. So the people that opt-in are just curious at best.

Incentive survey leads are the worst, and most lead companies will deny that their leads have any incentivized leads in them. But just make the phone calls and you will find some people in there will just say something like … “oh, I was just trying to win the X when I filled that out”. Most of these kinds of leads just don’t answer their phones because they are getting barraged by phone calls.

The other big problem with purchased leads is that they are shared. They are sold to 2 – 10 other people. If you had 6 different people calling you all saying their business was the best what would you do? … probably nothing … you would get disgusted and paralyzed in indecision. This is what happens to most of the lead company leads that are purchased.

But it is still the best answer for the new Home Business Operator because it gives them a lot of practice quickly. And they may actually make a few sales from lead company leads. But these leads are not far removed from selling Ice to Eskimos. Why? Because you have not connected with someone that was looking for you. It’s kind of like walking up to some stranger on the street and asking them if they want to join your business. The truth is that if you do that enough, you will eventually find some people to say yes …. If you are still in the business by the time that happens.

No matter what business you start, you must think in terms of generating your own leads to have sustainable long term success. You want targeted leads. People that responded to exactly what you were offering, when you were offering it. The Internet is the best and least expensive way to do that. All you have to do is learn how to market in the Internet and you are literally set for the rest of your life.

This is where you have to be careful. Just like the lead vendors that will tell you anything to get you to buy their leads, the Internet marketing Training and Seminar world is quickly becoming all hype and little substance. Many people shell out thousands to attend these big extravaganzas only to be "pitched to" for 3 days by dozens of masters at platform selling. You get a little of the “what” and none of the “How”. To get the “How”, you will have to part with more money for boxed sets of self learning courses. You could literally (and I have done this) spend thousands at one of these seminars and come away learning almost nothing.

Well, I got tired of this. I have been searching for a couple of years for real classroom style training for Search Engine and Internet Marketing training and could find no-one that would do it at a reasonable price. What’s reasonable? Well I spend over $40,000 to learn what I know.

In December of 2006 I launched InterProsperidigm University. A company devoted exclusively to teaching Internet Marketing and Web 2.0 and 3.0 applications. The tuition varies from $995.00 - $2,995.00 for a 3 ½ day Immersion training. What we do in this training is have you participate in the building of an Internet company from scratch. There is no better way to learn than to actually do, and IPU offers the only such training. It’s not 3 ½ days of lecture either. Each class is supported by a post class weekly tele-seminar for 2 months after that is included in the tuition. Click Here to Learn More! If you are interested, opt into the newsletter. The next event date is the 2nd week of March 2007.

This event is for those serious individuals that truly want to have it all and never want to return to working for someone else.
